Tentative Itinerary
Sunday, November 11th
Arrive in El Salvador in the evening. Spend the night in the small rural community of Ciudad Romero (1.5 hours from the airport).
Monday, November 12th
Morning: Orientation and overview of community programs. Tour of Ciudad Romero. Visit murals that depict its moving history of struggle and survival, the community flood shelter. Afternoon: Meet with community leaders for overview of programs, interactive youth presentation. Visit demonstration farm in Ciudad Romero. Stay in Ciudad Romero.
Tuesday, November 13th
Morning: Visit potable water and sanitation projects and shrimp cooperatives in Tierra Blanca. Afternoon: Rest, or optional activities with children at local daycare cooperative. Stay in Ciudad Romero.
Wednesday, November 14th
Morning: Boat ride through the mangroves. Meet with cashew farmers and shellfish collectors in Isla de Montecristo. Lunch in Montecristo. Afternoon: Visit youth artisan cooperative in Las Mesitas. Visit mangrove restoration site at El Llorón. Visit sea turtle hatchery and release sea turtles. Stay in Ciudad Romero.
Thursday, November 15th
Morning: Visit organic family farms and talk with farmers. Afternoon: Visit Mangrove Association offices, organic cashew roasting coop and community radio project. Group reflection and tour evaluation. Stay at beautiful beach resort on the Costa del Sol.
Friday, November 16th
Take a morning dip in the ocean, relax and enjoy the beautiful beach. Afternoon: Group reflection on travel experience. Stay at Costa del Sol.
Saturday, November 17th
Depart El Salvador.
Cost
$850 per person*
This includes guided tours, meals, and share accommodations. Does not include: airfare, travel insurance, alcohol, or tips.
