National Outreach Director - Oakland Office

The National Outreach Director (NOD), our 4th and newest position, will be charged with strengthening, diversifying and growing EcoViva’s network of core supporters.  The NOD will work primarily from the Oakland office, helping support our volunteer committees, house parties and our Community Empowerment Tours (CET) program. She/he will likely travel to Central America at least once in order to become familiar with our work on the ground.  Travel within the U.S. will be limited in the first year, but may grow after that.

 

Reports to: Executive Director

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and carry out a plan to recruit and retain more core supporters (defined as supporters who stay actively engaged with our work, and consistently give $250 or more per year).
  • Work directly with the Board, particularly the Board Fundraising Committee, to organize and carry out our current Core Supporter Program.
  • Support the Executive Director in her outreach to individual supporters.
  • Identify and build relationships with trustees and decision-makers within family foundations throughout the U.S. who have an interest in Central America.
  • Provide all in-office support for volunteer-led fundraising and outreach events in various cities around the country.
  • Support (from the office) the consolidation of EcoViva community committees in Portland, Olympia & Santa Fe.
  • Launch a Planned Giving Campaign with current Board members and major donors.
  • Conduct outreach and follow up with potential Community Empowerment Tour participants, both individuals and groups.
  • Support communication with ongoing CET groups, as needed.
  • Recruit potential major donors to participate in upcoming CETs.
  • Follow up with CET participants after they return to ensure ongoing engagement in our work.
  • Document all interactions with core supporters in our database to improve our institutional memory.

 

Job Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience working in the nonprofit field, with progressively greater responsibilities
  • Substantive fundraising experience, particularly with individual donors
  • Understanding of / interest in EcoViva’s mission and values
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent follow-through
  • Great planning skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven track record raising funds from major donors
  • Background and training in fundraising
  • Experience working in Central America or Latin America, or with Central American communities in the U.S. (bi-cultural a plus)
  • Ease with online communication and relational database systems

 

This is a full time, salaried position; however, we are willing to consider slightly reduced hours to accommodate parents and others with commitments outside of work.  Compensation: lower-$40s to mid-$50s, depending on experience.    Health and dental benefits available.

Internships at our Oakland Office

Do you have great computer skills, but need further experience in the nonprofit world? We are looking for ongoing support in the following areas:

 

- Social media and nonprofit marketing
- Database maintenance and support
- Campus and congregation outreach

 

 

EcoViva Interns commit to working 5 to 10 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. You come into our office one afternoon per week, and you can also complete additional projects from home.

Volunteer from Home

You can help EcoViva by becoming a volunteer with our Manos Campaign. Manos members all over the United States organize gatherings in their hometowns, on their campuses and with their congregations. We can connect you with other people who are committed to our work, and help you organize fun events to support community empowerment in El Salvador.

Volunteer in El Salvador

We have a limited number of spaces for skilled volunteers to work in rural El Salvador. To apply, you must already speak advanced Spanish, and be able to commit for a minimum of six months. Exceptions to the six-month commitment are sometimes made for those with specialized skills that are needed locally.

 

 

The following professions and skills are particularly in demand:

 

- Tropical wetlands biologists
- Conservation scientists
- Watershed management and habitat restoration
- Engineering
- Experience teaching computer skills to people with limited formal education
- Public health (environmental health focus)
